Boychoirs

André Heywood, North Central-ACDA Chair

Welcome to the Boychoir Repertoire & Standards Area of the NC-ACDA Website. Our hope is that this area will be a springboard for you, pointing you in the right direction to a variety of helpful resources. We also hope that conductors from across the division will use information presented here to collectively formulate ideas on how to develop the boychoir area in our six-state region. By embracing common objectives across the division, we can support each other in the development of our programs and support our young male singers in helping them to find their voice.

As a division, we are committed not only to our young singers, but to choral organizations and to the schools and teachers who work with our young men. Our commitments to the aforementioned groups are as follows:

To the boys:

  • To facilitate to development of environments that fully engage boys in the artistic, social, and educational aspects of choral singing
  • To encourage boys to make singing and integral part of their life and something they will continue to pursue for the rest of their lives

To boychoirs:

  • To promote and develop boychoirs from across the division
  • To connect boychoirs from across the division with each other

To schools & teachers:

  • To advocate for systems and schedules in schools that encourage male participation in choral music within the framework of development of the entire music program where possible
  • To equip music teachers with the resources necessary to lead successful music programs for boys
